Settling In Okay

I am a dog who likes to stick to a routine. We don’t have one yet here. However, I am still settling in pretty well.

We go for walks two or three times a day, and we play indoors. Sometimes we have company- people or other dogs. I like my friend Rowdy, but he always brings along this little puppy that is only a couple of months old and hasn’t learned all her manners yet. For instance, it is socially awkward when a puppy tries to latch onto one of my nipples to nurse.

I am shunning her until she stops getting all up in my face demanding that I play or pay attention to her. I have given a few of her tricks a try at home, though. Sometimes I will jump on Mom and bark right in her face if I want to play. That’s not working out too well. Also, I tried nesting in the laundry basket twice like Nixie (the puppy) does at her house. Mom kicked me out both times. Something about clean laundry and me being too big.

A few times we’ve driven up into the mountains to go for walks. It smells wrong- too much pine, not enough creosote. Also, there’s not much in the way of dog pee to sniff so it’s hard to find out what’s going on.

We have a lot of dogs in this town that wander around unsupervised. Some of them try to come near my house so I am very busy staying on alert. Fortunately, the windows are at just the right height for my Black Dog Ops:

Mom picked up some pictures that my buddies at Sit! Stay! Play! in Tucson took in the last couple of weeks I was there. We are going to have to send a package off to them this week, and I will probably post a few of the photos in the next few days.

To all the Sit! Stay! Play! people and my dog buddies there- I miss you!

A Busy Morning

You would think that a girl could get some peace and quiet in a small town in Montana, but it isn’t even noon yet and already I am pooped out from all the uproar!

Already this morning I was forced to chase off a little old lady who wanted to come in and give us a bible lesson, and then I had to chase off some guy who was trying to sell mom some story about needing to borrow a phone to report a fire.

I guess the fire story was true, though, because then the town fire alarm sounded and a bunch of cars and a firetruck have been up and down our street for the last fifteen minutes. I have been chasing them away one by one from one of my barking stations in the guest bedroom window.

I may be an old dog, but I’ve got a lot of bark left in me!

Update: And now at 12:45 pm, some lady stopped by to recruit mom for a political discussion coffee.

I’ve been busy expanding my horizons by taking in a variety of foriegn media. Here are the results from my anglo amblings:

Pepper Dog Blog

I a very sweet, if overly angst-ridden, black lab mix and recent transplant from the sunny Sonoran desert to the mountains of Montana. One of the things I most miss about Arizona was my school Sit! Stay! Play! in Tucson, Arizona. All of the people there took extra good care of me, and I had a lot of awesome canine buddies, too!

Now that I am in Montana settling into my new life, I have decided to start a blog to share photos and stories of my new life and friends and discuss other dog topics such as news and alerts and possibly even bark out an opinion or two once in a while when the mood strikes.

I will start off with a few photos from a recent winter walk mom and I took up our street:

One problem I have found with snow is that it is very hard to find where you peed before it snowed. Once it snows, you just look for the yellow spots, but after it melts again you have to start all over YET AGAIN! SHEESH!
